We poured a whole lot of passion into renovating this old home on Maher Avenue. A narrow semi-detached in Toronto's trendy Junction neighbourhood, it needed a big update. We opened up the first floor, modernized the main stairs and added tons of functionality throughout, including a finished basement rental unit.
We gutted the old, teeny tiny staircase to the second floor and replaced it with a much wider flight. Despite the bigger footprint, we kept an open feel with light wood treads and an airy railing. Plus, super-functional storage hidden below!
We turned a low-functioning back addition into a charming two-piece bath with washer and dryer. Every inch counted when framing this one in. A perfect spot to fit a trendy hanging barn door to help save on space.
We added extra special touches to the primary bedroom upstairs, opening up the ceiling for a sky-high vaulted overhead and more tucked-away storage to maximize the space in this two bedroom.
We made the most of this slim lot by transforming the unfinished basement into a complete, separate unit to bring in extra rental income: Cha-ching!
